Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes celebrated another landmark in his glittering career by scoring the opening goal as Manchester United coasted to a resounding victory over Wigan at Old Trafford.
The 37-year-old, making his 700th appearance for United, tapped in from close range six minutes into the second half to inspire a victory that lifts his side in to second place in the Premier League table, a point behind leaders Chelsea.
United recovered from seeing Javier Hernandez have a controversial fifth-minute penalty saved by Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi by striking three times in 15 second-half minutes to decide the contest.

Ferguson praises Scholes' role
Hernandez turned in debutant Alex Buttner's low cross to make it two, before the Dutchman himself beat Al-Habsi too easily from a narrow angle. Substitute Nick Powell, also making his debut, completed the rout with a thunderous 20-yard shot.
The one negative note for the home side was some unsavoury chanting from a minority of their fans aimed at Liverpool supporters in the wake of revelations about the Hillsborough tragedy.
After the match a Manchester United spokesman said: "The manager has made the club's position very clear on this matter, it's now up to the fans to respect that."
For long periods United were well below their best, especially during a first half which Wigan finished the more convincingly.

Analysis

"The legs may be a little heavier and the goals may not come nearly as readily but Ferguson's faith in Scholes has never wavered."
But as the visitors' exhaustive pressing game began to run out of steam, Sir Alex Ferguson's side moved through the gears and then had the luxury of giving Robin van Persie a 20 minute run-out ahead of Wednesday's Champions League match against Galatasaray.
Scholes was at the heart of United's revival, pulling the strings with his laser-guided passing and well-oiled repertoire of feints and flicks.
There was more than one reminder that his tackling remains more than a little wild, but as he trudged off to a standing ovation 20 minutes from time, it was his goal that United fans preferred to remember.
"It was a handsome Manchester United win in the end and Sir Alex Ferguson's 500th home league game in charge ended with an emphatic victory"
The result aside, this was a landmark day for United. Scholes was making his 700th appearance in a United shirt and Rio Ferdinand his 400th, while Ryan Giggs took to the field for his 600th Premier League match.
It was also Ferguson's 500th home league match - he had won 355 of the previous 499 (drawing 95 and losing 49).
None of it made pretty reading for Wigan, who had lost all seven of their Premier League matches at Old Trafford, conceding 24 goals and with just a lone stoppage-time penalty in 2006 to show for their efforts. And yet somehow there was hope.
Ferguson admitted in his pre-match programme notes that defeat by "little Wigan" had ultimately cost United the title last season.
And until Scholes broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half, "little Wigan" were threatening to do it all over again, as they tackled, battled, and denied their more celebrated opponents space.

United might have been ahead as early as the fifth minute, when Al-Habsi was controversially adjudged to have made contact with Danny Welbeck in the penalty area, but the Wigan goalkeeper went to down to his left to deny Hernandez from the resulting penalty.
It was Welbeck who had the best of United's chances during a fragmented and frustrating first half, with the England striker creating and spurning a series of opportunities.
Wigan ended the first period on the front foot, with Ivan Ramis and, in particular, Arouna Kone spurning good chances.
And yet all that was forgotten within five minutes of the restart, when Michael Carrick spun on the edge of the penalty area and freed Nani down the right.
The Portuguese forward's low cross was spilled by Al-Habsi and Scholes was on hand to turn the ball into the net from six yards.
A second followed eight minutes later, Buttner reacting first as Giggs's attempted cross was blocked and steering the ball across goal, where Hernandez beat the offside trap to score.
Buttner added a third, rampaging down the left and beating Al-Habsi from an apparently impossible angle, before Powell, minutes after coming on as a substitute, added a fourth.

RESPOND TO MH. ZITTO KABWE, MASHAKA AND PROF. MUHONGO AND PRESIDENT JK

mr. michuzi,

I thinking you of giving us the chance to discuss the economy and development of our country in your esteemed blog.i also thank president honorable Dr. jakaya mrisho kikwete for leading us to development in seven years of good leadership. I also thank everybody of being of being honesty to our blog of jamii.

I have been following very close debates of economy development in social media especially between experts and leaders especially between zitto kabwe, john Mashaka and prof. sospeter muhongo.

So, I will start the debate by challenge honorable zitto kabwe and honorable john Mashaka and prof. sospter  muhongo to be honest in economy of this country. Honorable kabwe talk and talks without any economy data he is seeking praised and attention from the people and dot know much about economy. He cnnot know everything than everybody in the government.

He is not honest on what he wants from natural gas and mineral. People believe honorable zitto is fighting his stomach not Tanzania people. you don’t know if zitto is for CDM or is for CCM because he is dictator.

He is different from policy of chadema. Because he defence the suspicious activieties in Tanzania, gas in mtwara and mining of all mineral. And zitto is very rich, and why because MP salary cannot buy hummer and Vogue how is he get the money? how
Honorable jonh Mashaka is not honest because he work at with invesntment banks in the wallstreet USA.

John Mashaka is part of problem in global economics of 2008, and cannot advice the country how to work on the economy because he looking for political job like minister of economic, and when he become minister, I move to Somalia to live with Al-shbaab.

Somalia will be good that living with Tanzania and Mashaka as minister of economy. Mashaka is not honest because he says contracts must be understood, and our lawyers understand the contaracts, and the problem is politicians and corruption.

TAKUKURU is investigating and president Dr. Kikwete trust all of the people in investigation will go to prison like maranda of EPA. So Mashaka must stop to criticize the contracts and zitto. If he thinking is cleverer he must come home and stand with dr. slaa and mtikila who is going to court everyday to defend democracy of this country

PROF. muhongo to continue to write new contract and make sure the Chinese are not lying of the permits of class A and start mining in game reserves. That is dangerous for our country safety and security.

Even when you go to kariakoo they sell everything without permit because the contrats they created is not good and will not stop it. And that will make Chinese stop visa to Tanzania business. Must be like john magufuri to be the best minister of energy and minerals

Uranium mining will be done in accordance with IAEA regulations-TAEC

By Staff Reporter.

THE Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) Director General Professor Iddi Mkilaha has called upon the public to be supportive to the country’s uranium development initiatives urging that the country has the capacity to safeguard against possible radiations.

According to Mkilaha, Tanzania will be able to benefit from uranium because of growing demand for the mineral thus emphasizing that there is need for a collective voice on the matter.

He said Tanzania’s uranium exploration process will be carried out in accordance with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations with strict emphasis on safety of the people who will directly be involved and the surrounding communities.

“There has been a lot of debate on the matter recently. Truth is our lives are always exposed to various forms of radiation on daily basis. We need to embrace the uranium exploration but we also need to come up with solutions of how to minimize risks.

“There is no need for worry. Tanzania is a member of the IAEA. We will have no option but to adhere to the IAEA regulations when mining finally begins,” Professor Mkilaha said.

He said his commission has already embarked on capacity building for its staff adding that up to 12 people have so far been enrolled to various institutions in the European Union (EU) and the United States in a bid to strengthen their capacity in handling uranium aspects.

Professor Mkilaha said TAEC will continue to undertake research in all the country’s uranium prospective areas and other mining areas across the country in a bid to ensure safety.

“We have worked closely with Mantra Tanzania during the first phase of its Mkuju River Project and we will continue to work closely with them when exploration finally begins. We will continue to take samples at the Mkuju site to ascertain if there are changes,” he added.  Professor Mkilaha however said TAEC is set to embark on a national sensitization campaign that will help in creating public awareness on the uranium related issues.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee mid this year accepted Tanzania's request to make changes to the territory of the Selous Game Reserve to pave way for the $400 million Mkuju River uranium Project development by Mantra Tanzania that will give the Tanzanian coffers an annual gross turnover of at least $250 million for 15 years.

SEACOM SUPPORTS KINU WITH INTERNET CAPACITY TO STIMULATE LOCAL ICT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Pan-African ICT enabler SEACOM has made a generous commitment to provide KINU – a Tanzanian non-profit ICT innovation hub- with 30mb of free Internet capacity for a one year period. This will assist with improving the speed and quality of KINU’s Internet connectivity, which will in turn improve the efficiency of the start-up ICT enterprises they develop.

‘SEACOM has decided to support KINU and potentially other ICT innovation hubs throughout Southern and East Africa with Internet access because of its strong commitment to stimulating innovation, enterprise development and job creation within Africa’s ICT sector,’ says Anna Kahama-Rupia, managing director of SEACOM Tanzania.

She adds that the skills, relationships, applications and new businesses developed within these ICT innovation hubs will go a long way in improving Africa’s ICT efficiencies and addressing the challenge of creating new jobs for its growing youth population.

The arrival of new submarine telecommunications cables starting in 2009, paired with government investment in the national telecommunications backbone, has spurred a revolution in Tanzania that has seen the cost of Internet connectivity dropping dramatically making high speed Internet access more affordable and accessible to ordinary Tanzanians.

This has had a dramatic effect on education, entrepreneurship and social life in the country. The KINU Hub is the first privately run open space for Tanzania’s tech community to foster co-creation, innovation and capacity building. This collaborative space was established to build a community with a culture of co-creation, and to enable participation into the process of generating new solutions to social challenges.

The project is also supported by Google Inc. and the Indigo Trust. ‘A collaborative space was needed to enable the community to participate in the co-creation process and make a joint effort to generate new solutions,’ says Luca Neghesti, co-founder of KINU. ‘It was important to establish the environment needed to ensure that the next generation of African innovators has the freedom to build products and services which will reach out to the rest of the world.’

KINU will be open to everyone in the Tanzanian tech ecosystem including coders, designers and entrepreneurs. The organisation will provide a host of services and facilities including high-speed internet access, data storage and backup, knowledge centre, industry meet-ups & events, innovation competitions, ICT workshops, testing environments, webinars and application testing.

KINU will use a microwave link between SEACOM’s Silversands cable landing station in Kunduchi and their innovation hub. The organisation is currently in the process of purchasing the required equipment to activate the Internet capacity donated by SEACOM.

‘This is an exciting development for KINU and the organisation is truly grateful to SEACOM for their generosity and vision,’ commented Luca Neghesti at KINU.
